Meeting Santa

We took Isaac to Christmas Village to meet Santa (AKA Grandpa) for the first time. I was excited to see what his reaction would be. He wasn't scared and didn't cry, he just stared. I think he was a little confused to hear Grandpa but see all that white hair and beard. Shawn and I have gotten pictures with Santa every year since we've been married and it was fun to get one now with the baby. His favorite part of the night was when we gave him the candy cane. He sucked on it until he was getting flavor through the wrapper, he loved it!

Tummy sleeper

When Isaac started rolling over really well he started sleeping on his tummy. Now he rolls to his tummy to sleep almost every time you put him down. (yes, the sleep sack he's wearing does say "back to sleep" on it but what do you do? he can't read.) When he woke up from this nap he had been sleeping on his hand and he had perfect outlines of his fingers on his forehead. You could even seen the outlines of his finger nails and knuckles. So funny!

Catching up

I meant to have these pictures in the opposite order but it takes too long to fix them. (is it just me or did they switch how they load?) Anyway this is just a little catching up.
This was just taken one day before church but I put it on here because I think Isaac looks so grown up in his little sweater. He looks like a little man!

Happy Birthday Shawn!!! Shawn turned 36 on Nov. 1st. (yikes we are getting old!) We went to a party at Tex and Taunia's that night with our friends from the old singles branch. It was so much fun to see everyone again! I had a picture on here of everyone there, but it disappeared. I don't think I quite have it all down how to do these posts.

Our little dragon. Halloween was so much fun. I took Isaac to my parents trunk or treat. (Shawn and I are still eating his candy) Having a kid on Halloween is awesome. I have really missed trick or treating.

We had to get a picture of Isaac and Daxton in their matching costumes. This was at Jackie's birthday party. Keri is so creative, the party was so fun and everything was so cute!

Isaac's favorites

Isaac turned 6 months old in October. I really can't believe it's already been half a year we've had him in our little family. He is changing so much lately, learning new things so quickly. He rolls like crazy, he's pretty good at getting around just by rolling. He's sitting up better but still has a few balance issues. The top 2 pictures show a few of his favorite things to do: eat and bounce. He has this new fascination with food. He just stares when we eat and he chews while he watches us. We are starting the baby food thing but it's going a little slowly, he is a little sensitive to new foods. Right now we are doing pears and he loves them. (I love the baby whisperer's chart for starting solids, it just makes sense) He doesn't seem to get tired of bouncing. My parents and grandparents both have that same little jumper and he loves it. It does save your arms from getting tired because he bounces all the time, whether he's in the jumper or your arms. My Grandpa Long has nicknamed him tigger.

Goodbye

I tend to procrastinate and there are a few things that I am so grateful I didn't put off. I am so thankful we took Isaac to Washington in June and spent time with Grandma Ba. I am so glad she got to meet my baby. I am so glad I listened to my mom and sent both a thank you note and an e-mail to her last week. It seemed repetitious at the time and I thought the note would probably be enough. The e-mail made it in time, the note did not. Thanks for the advice mom. I am so thankful I know Grandma saw the post I did just for her and that the pictures made her happy. Mom, I am so sorry you lost your mom. Joette and April, I am so sorry you lost your mom recently. I can't imagine the pain of losing your mother. All three of you are such examples to me, you all have such faith and strength.
Goodbye, Grandma Ba, I love you and you will be missed.

This is for you Grandma Ba (Greatma)

My parents said you wanted to see a picture of Isaac in his bear pj's. He looked so cute in them. I wish we were closer so you could see him in person. We love and miss you and hope you feel better!

(Sick) sleepy little tiger

We spent last Monday night in the ER with poor little Isaac. He started throwing up and wouldn't stop, it was so sad! He got really pale and lethargic and I got way scared so we took a trip to the hospital. Of course this all happened after the clinics were closed and while Shawn was in school taking a final. Luckily, I was at my parents when it started so my dad took us to the hospital and stayed with us. They gave him Zofran which he was able to keep down, and once it kicked in they had me feed him to make sure he would keep that down. He never threw up again after the medicine, so they sent us home. Sure sounds easier then it was, it was a horrible night. I couldn't even put him in his car seat because every time he would throw up he would choke and I didn't want him strapped down choking. It was a good decision- he did throw up in the car. And in the waiting room, and in his room in the ER-poor baby! I was a mess, no one warned me about this part of being a mom! It's so horrible to have a sick baby, I felt so helpless. I don't stay calm and collected either. You wouldn't know that I've been a nurse for 10+ years, I just turn into this crazy, terrified mother-it's embarrassing. Anyway, he is totally fine now, by the next day he was acting completely normal. Oh and just to clear things up, we did not take our camera to the ER. We took that picture with Shawn's phone once Isaac was feeling better and perking up and I was a little calmer. The little gown was pretty cute-it was huge on him. It says "sleepy little tiger" all over it which he was. This all happened after his bedtime. What a night!

Anything for a cute picture.

Shawn and I went to my cousin Zach's wedding luncheon at the Timbermine and I thought these pumpkins would make such a cute background for a picture. One problem, Isaac doesn't sit up yet. So Shawn scooted 2 pumpkins together and balanced Isaac between them. Then he jumped out of the way so I could hurry and take a few pictures. Well, it didn't quite work, seconds after this picture was taken, Isaac leaned to the side and face planted on the ground. We felt like terrible parents but we did get our picture...

He's got teeth, ouch!

I don't know if you can see it, but there is a tooth there! (Actually now there are 2) The day before he turned 5 months we stopped by my mom's work and she discovered the tooth. I didn't believe her at first but when we finally got him to open his mouth so we could look, there it was! You could see where the 2nd one was about to break through, which it did 2 days later. So now he has his 2 bottom teeth and man are they sharp. His breastfeeding days may be numbered if he doesn't learn to stop biting!

The Fair!

We went to the fair with Patti and David, Mary and John and their kids. We had lots of fun and lots of good food. I tried suggesting to Shawn that we eat when we leave the fair since everything costs so much, but he was pretty horrified and informed me he goes to the fair for the food. My mistake!

The sheep and goats kept trying to eat Isaac's blanket but he didn't seem to mind. He loved watching the baby pigs eat. That poor mama pig, I can't imagine feeding that many babies! I thought one was hard.

Labor Day

We wanted to get Isaac out and do something on Labor Day so we went to the Ogden parkway with John and Mary, David and Patti, & Shawn and Shannon. The kids played while we sat around and talked then we walked a little on the trail. Mary worked her baby voodoo and Isaac just cuddled with her until he went to sleep. Amazing. Mary, you are welcome at our house anytime! After the park we went out to dinner at Chili's. Fun day!

Isaac at the pool!

We took Isaac up to the condo for his first time in the pool! We went with Patti, Lucas, and baby James. I know you can't tell he's having fun from the pictures but he really did love being in the water! He was happy the whole time we had him in the pool. He didn't even seem to notice that it was a lot colder then his normal bath water. I can't wait to take him again!

McOmber family reunion

I'm a little behind in blogging (not as bad as Shannon though!). There are a few things about motherhood I wasn't prepared for-like Isaac's health scare this week. We feel very blessed that all the scary tests turned out negative and instead he has bronchitis from parainfluenza virus type 3 (I'd never heard of it but it is similar to RSV). Anyway he is getting better so I'll catch up a little. We took a trip to Glacier Park, Montana the end of July for the McOmber family reunion. Glacier Park is beautiful, we had a great time. We didn't camp-thank heavens-but stayed in cute little cabins instead. It was my perfect camping scenario-hang out at the campground during the day, sit by the fire at night, then head 0.2 miles to our comfy bed in the warm cabin.
It was so great to get to spend time with Shawn's family that we just don't see nearly enough- his mom and dad and Heather and Shane and their kids. Heather gave him that cute little John Deere hat- we love it on him! The weekend went way to fast and before we knew it, it was time to come home. We drove at night this time and it went so much better. It about killed Shawn and I but Isaac was an angel and slept the whole time!
Isaac loves his Grandma McOmber! When he was fussy she would calm him down by singing to him. She has such a beautiful voice! Poor kid usually has to listen to me-what a treat to listen to grandma instead! Shawn got to introduce Isaac to his Great-Grandpa McOmber which he has been so excited to do. So far Isaac is the only McOmber on his generation and the only chance to carry on the McOmber name. What a big responsibility for such a little guy!
There was a lake right outside our cabin and the campground. It was beautiful but freezing, so this was Isaac's only experience with the lake. Shawn only lasted about 1o seconds. Shannon and Jamie were really brave-they went swimming with the kids.

July 13, 2008

Isaac is 3 months old! Another month has just flown by. He is 13 weeks and 13 pounds! (born on the 13th, just seems to be his lucky number) It is so amazing watching him change and grow and learn new things. He is the center of our world right now and we are loving every minute!
We introduced Isaac to his first Pops concert as WSU. I was worried about how he'd do because it was during his bedtime, but I forget how much he loves crowds and noise. We walked around the duck pond with him in his stroller and he just watched all the people and was perfectly content. We forgot about that first cannon and were standing really close when it went off. We all jumped including poor little Isaac, but he didn't cry, just looked really surprised! I was glad he stayed awake for the fireworks. He was asleep before any started on the 4th so this was his first time to watch a real fireworks show. He just stared at them with wide eyes and we got our entertainment watching him. Going to the Pops concert with our friends every year is one of my favorite traditions and it is so fun to include Isaac now.

The Fourth of July

Well Isaac had his first 4th of July. I think I was mostly excited to dress him up in his cute little outfit (compliments of Grandma and Grandpa Long) with the matching hat and shoes I found at Old Navy. Ok, way off subject, Amber if you are reading this I am for sure with you on the last name for grandparents thing. Anyway, our day started off at my parents ward breakfast, then after Isaac had a little nap in the car seat we went to Dave and Janece's house for a BBQ for lunch, then home for another nap, then to Wolford's for dinner and fireworks in the driveway. The close up picture of Isaac was the expression he had on his face through all the fireworks. No overwhelming joy, but even the really loud ones didn't scare him, my brave little boy. He just kept that same expression, he cracks me up. Oh and yes, if you noticed, I chopped my hair off. I'm still a little up in the air if it was a smart decision. It was definitely spur of the moment, enough so that I went to someone I didn't know and didn't know anything about. Big mistake. I will be heading back to my wonderful Melissa in 8 weeks to fix things up a little, but it is the big change I was ready for. Good thing Isaac loves me unconditionally (as long as I keep providing milk). And Shawn says he likes it but that could just be to keep me from going into those unpredictable post-partum tears. Anyway, it was a good 4th, lots of fun with friends and family, slightly hampered when I came down with mastitis late that night. (mastitis really sucks) I, like Mary, am looking forward to next year when we can resume the Bee's game tradition. Not to give away our secrets or our spot on the lawn, but you really can't beat the Bee's game on the 4th. The fireworks are literally right above you, last year we had junk falling on us from them. And I am so excited to take Isaac to a baseball game. So next year for sure Mary.

The Messy Jobs

This is one of those messy jobs I mentioned in the last post. Shawn was lucky enough to get Isaac's first mega blowout that first week home from the hospital. He got his first bath in the tub right after this picture was taken!

Isaac and his daddy

This is kind of my belated Father's Day post. I wanted to post the pictures of Shawn holding Isaac on Father's Day that we took in Kennewick. This year Mother's and Father's day took on a whole new meaning for us, our first as parents! Shawn is such a great dad, he has been so involved right from the start, even with the messy jobs! He loves spending time with Isaac and Isaac loves his daddy!

Happy baby

Isaac is smiling and laughing more and more every day and honestly I don't think there is anything cuter in the whole world. It absolutely makes my day when that little boy smiles at me. I am finding so much joy in being home and being his mom. I can see why motherhood is such an important privilege for women, I have never done anything that is more rewarding.

Robli's goodbye party

Sunday we went to Craig and Liz's house for a goodbye party for Robli. She is going to Connecticut to be a nanny for 5 kids (brave girl). I love that my extended family still gets together so often and is so supportive of each other. It's so fun to have little Isaac now to bring to these family events, the family is growing more and more with all these babies!

Becky's baby shower

Saturday I went to a baby shower for Becky and baby Daxton. Daxton and Isaac are only a few weeks apart in age and I'm so excited for them to grow up together. We have had 3 little miracle babies in our family in the last year! What a blessing.

Dinner at Carinos

We had a busy weekend. Jim and Erin were in town so Thursday we went to Salt Lake and went to dinner at Carinos with them, Jamie, Shawn, Shannon and Sydney. We had a great time and the food there is awesome. Shawn and Shannon had been telling us about their nachos and they were every bit as good as they said. (nachos at an italian restaraunt, weird.) Isaac got to be a big boy and sit up to the table with us, it was so cute) Friday night they all came to our house, we went to Cafe Rio then back to our house to watch a movie. I love spending time with Shawn's family. I joke that I really married him for his family, which of course isn't true, but I did get quite the package deal.

Isaac's first road trip

June 13-16th we took a trip to Kennewick, WA so Isaac could meet his Greatma (my Grandma Ba). It was Isaac's first trip and it seems he doesn't love road trips! The drive down was a little rough, but we finally made it and he forgot really quickly how mad he was to be in the car seat for so long. We had a great time visiting with family (we spent time with Grandma, Ben and Renee, and Shawn's cousin Steve and his family) and enjoyed getting away for a few days. The drive home went much better because we left really early in the morning and Isaac does much better earlier in the day. All in all I'd say the trip was a success!

2 months old!

On June 13th our sweet little boy turned 2 months old. I can't believe how time flies! He's getting so big, he is 11 pounds 1 ounce now and 22 1/4 inches long. He is learning new things every day, he smiles and laughs more and more and he loves to look at his toys and books. These 2 months with him in our family have been so amazing, we treasure every moment with our little miracle baby!
